Angular contact ball bearings have inner and outer ring raceways that are displaced relative to each other in the direction of the bearing axis. This means that these bearings are designed to accommodate combined loads, i.e. simultaneously acting radial and axial loads.
The axial load carrying capacity of angular contact ball bearings increases as the contact angle increases. The contact angle is defined as the angle between the line joining the points of contact of the ball and the raceways in the radial plane, along which the combined load is transmitted from one raceway to another, and a line perpendicular to the bearing axis.

Single row angular contact ball bearings
OW® single row angular contact ball bearings can accommodate axial loads in one direction only. This type of bearing is typically adjusted against a second bearing. Their bearing rings have an upper and a lower shoulder and are non-separable.

Features and benefits
- High load carrying capacity
- The lower shoulder enables a large number of balls to be incorporated in the bearing, giving it a relatively high load carrying capacity.
- Good running properties
- Rapid accelerations and decelerations are possible.
- Easy mounting of universally matchable bearings
- No adjustment is needed for correct internal clearance or preload.
Double row angular contact ball bearings
The design of OW® double row angular contact ball bearings corresponds to two single row angular contact ball bearings arranged back-to-back.

Series
| Series | Description | Typical Models | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3200 Series (Light) | Light-duty double row angular contact ball bearings | 3200, 3201, 3202, 3203 | Pumps, fans, agricultural machinery |
| 3300 Series (Heavy) | Heavy-duty double row angular contact ball bearings | 3300, 3301, 3302, 3303 | Gearboxes, conveyors, industrial machinery |
| 5200 Series (Standard) | Standard double row angular contact ball bearings | 5200, 5201, 5202, 5203 | Automotive systems, pumps, general machinery |
| 5300 Series (Heavy Duty) | Reinforced double row bearings for heavy loads | 5300, 5301, 5302, 5303 | Construction machinery, industrial drives |
Features and benefits
- Less axial space
- Can be used for applications where two single row angular contact ball bearings arranged back-to-back take up too much axial space.
- Accommodates radial as well as axial loads in either direction
- Accommodates tilting moments
- Stiff bearing arrangement
Four-point contact ball bearings
Four-point contact ball bearings are radial single row angular contact ball bearings with raceways that are designed to support axial loads in both directions. For a given axial load, a limited radial load can also be supported (Load ratio). The bearings are separable, i.e. the outer ring with ball and cage assembly can be mounted separately from the two inner ring halves.
Series
| Series | Description | Typical Models | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|---|
| QJ 200 Series | Standard four-point contact ball bearings (medium section) | QJ206, QJ207, QJ208, QJ209, QJ210 | Gearboxes, compressors, industrial drives |
| QJ 300 Series | Heavy-duty four-point contact ball bearings | QJ306, QJ307, QJ308, QJ309, QJ310 | Wind turbines, heavy machinery, construction equipment |

Features and benefits
- Accommodates axial loads in both directions
- Less axial space
- These bearings take up considerably less axial space than double row bearings.
- High load carrying capacity
- A large number of balls are incorporated, giving the bearing its high load carrying capacity.
- Separable design
- The split inner ring leads to easier mounting and dismounting of the bearing.
- Improved oil flow
- Limited inner ring deformation when subjected to high clamping forces
